Welcome to the Falkirk & District Philatelic
Society
The Society is a large and very active stamp
club formed in 1965 for the study of stamps and encouragement of all branches of
stamp collecting in Falkirk and the surrounding area. Regular fortnightly
meetings run from September to April each year and informal summer meetings are
held monthly from May to August. The Society meets at 7.30pm on Thursday
evenings at
Camelon Parish Church Hall, Dorrator Road, Camelon.
The club has remained informal and friendly for over forty years. All stamp
collectors are welcome to visit at any meeting and anyone may join for an annual
subscription of £11 (£1 for juniors - under 18 years). Summer meetings cost £1
per evening. Tea/coffee is included at all our meetings.
The benefits of membership are numerous. Firstly there is an enormous pool of
knowledge and know-how within and outwith the club that you can draw upon.
Then there is the annual programme of
guest speakers of the highest calibre in Scotland who give
presentations on as wide a range of philatelic subjects as you can imagine.
Also there are interchange visits to and from other Scottish clubs;
regular displays of stamps; in-house and national competitions; an
annual
quiz; and opportunity to show your collecting interests. We engage
with other philatelic activities
locally, and nationally through both the
ASPS (Association of Scottish
Philatelic Societies)
and ABPS (Association of
British Philatelic Societies).
Members are encouraged to build their collections through the club's "exchange
packet" section for the buying and selling of stamps, and annually we hold
an
auction sale of philatelic material including books, albums, accessories,
stamps and postal history.
The
Society has its own
library of close to 200 stamp catalogues and reference books. The many
different types of philatelic publications are all loaned free of charge to
members.
Try before you buy! If you enjoy "The World's Greatest Hobby" you can come along
for a visit at no cost. A warm welcome awaits you. If you like what you see,
joining is simple and fuss-free. Contact the Secretary for more help, an
information pack, or a membership application form, or log on to
www.falkirkstampclub.co.uk.
